Shared Bottles is an option that causes bottles and their contents to be shared.

  • With Shared Bottles disabled, there are 10 bottles in the item pool. 4 bottles are exclusive to OoT and 6 bottles are exclusive to MM. When a bottle is found, it will only be useable in one game. There's no cross-game-compatability between the bottles.
  • With Shared Bottles enabled, there are 6 bottles in the item pool. When a bottle is found, it will be available for use in both games. Each bottle is treated as a single bottle available in both games:
    • Filling a bottle in one game results in those contents being available in both games.
    • Depleting a bottle's contents in one game causes the depletion of the bottle contents in both games.

Accessing the extra bottles in OoT

[How are the extra 2 bottles access in OoT used on the inventory screen? • Edit Article]

Initial Bottle Contents

Some bottles come with initial contents. Be aware that some bottle contents, such as red potion, are not logical unless there is a way to repeatedly re-obtain them.

When Shared

With Random Bottle Contents disabled, the 6 bottles are:

  • Ruto's Letter
  • Bottle of Gold Dust
  • Bottle of Chateau Romani
  • Bottle of Milk
  • Bottle of Red Potion
  • Empty Bottle

When Unshared

With Random Bottle Contents disabled, OoTMM matches the vanilla pool of bottles

In Ocarina of Time

  • Ruto's Letter
  • Bottle of Milk
  • Empty Bottle × 2

In Majora's Mask

  • Bottle of Gold Dust
  • Bottle of Chateau Romani
  • Bottle of Red Potion
  • Empty Bottle × 3

With Random Bottle Contents enabled

With Random Bottle Contents enabled, all bottles except the ones containing Ruto's Letter and Gold Dust will have random contents when they are first received. [Not 100% confident on this • Edit Article]

Cross-Game Contents

Spoiler Warning

This page contains spoilers. View at your own discretion.

OoTMM introduces new behaviour to some bottle contents when they are used outside their original game (e.g. a MM-exclusive contents being used in OoT)

Ruto's Letter

With Shared Bottles, Ruto's letter becomes a useable item in MM. Its only purpose in MM is to be used for Stock Pot Inn toilet hand check.

To turn Ruto's Letter into an empty bottle, both of the following tasks must be completed:

  • It must be shown to King Zora as Child Link
  • It must be shown to the toilet hand. If the toilet hand has already been shown another paper item, then it will need to be shown Ruto's Letter in another cycle.

Magic Mushroom

Magic Mushrooms are a bottle-able item that can be found in MM. In Ocarina of Time, it can be handed to the Old Hag in Kakariko Village in place of the Odd Mushroom.

Spring Water

Spring Water is a bottle-able item that can be found in MM. In Ocarina of Time, it can trigger fairies to spawn from soft soil patches once beans have been planted. These soft soil fairies may be shuffled.
